Sing the world a little cleaner

If you haven’t had a chance, you may want to check out these other pages I’ve written with activities about recycling and composting:

  • Composting 101 (what does it mean when something decomposes?)
  • Kids, Compost, and Critters (how do you start a compost bin and what critters are helping the process?)
  • Talkin’ Trash (activities about reducing trash and litter through recycling, reusing, composting, and reducing landfill waste)

Composting and recycling songs!

The Worms in the Bin  (to the tune of “the wheels on the bus”)

The worms in the bin (squiggle index finger to make a worm)

they eat our trash, eat our trash, eat our trash (pretend to eat).

The worms in the bin (make finger worm)

they eat our trash and help us save the earth (arms above head in a circle).

I’m a Little Earthworm

to the tune of  “I’m a little teapot”

I’m a little earthworm

Under ground

Munching on dead leaves

That I have found.

When the ground fills up

with spring rain

out I pop

to breath again.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

to the tune of  “Itsy Bitsy Spider”

reduce, reuse, recycle

Everything you have

And you will give the Earth

A nice healthy hand

reduce, reuse, recycle

Everything you have

(lyrics by Olga Clymire)

We Recycle

to the tune of “Are you sleeping?”

We recycle, we recycle

Paper and cans and glass

We won’t fill the landfills

or take the homes from animals

With our trash, with our trash.

I still remember almost all the words to this next one from when I was in fifth grade!

A World That Could Be Green

to the tune of “Yellow Submarine”

We all live in a world that could be green,
a world that should be green,
a world that would be clean

If our friends down at the store
used less Styrofoam,
recycled more,
cans of blue, and glass of green
all would vanish in a crunching machine.

We all live in a world that could be green,
a world that should be green,
a world that would be clean
If our trash cans all had names
mixing cans with paper is a shame
we could sort
the glass and then
all our trash would be used again.

We all live in a world that could be green,
a world that should be green,
a world that will be clean!
